There is a stack of 100 footers in Peter’s office, now relics of semesters gone by of test footage he shot with each class of intro students.  With the waning of film, you can be sure this exercise on the first day of class is the first time students handle and shoot film.  I doubt if Peter ever bothered to go back and watch them, but I did recently and was amazed at how beautiful, unique and playful each roll was—and how fun it must have been to create them.  Silent, B&W, approx. 3 minutes—familiar parameters that Peter worked with for so many years and yet here, so of the moment, so fresh.  His appreciation of life’s magic comes through even in these.
